About Conference

India’s energy consumption is likely to grow 4.2 percent per year for the next two decades, overtaking China before 2030. In anticipation of growing demand, the Government of India announced major initiatives aimed at building capacity for power generation, energy efficiency, and increasing clean energy sources in the overall energy mix. Currently, India has an installed power generation capacity of 344 gigawatts (GW), making it the fifth largest producer in the world. Coal continues to dominate with 57% share in energy mix, but its share is declining as natural gas (7%) and renewable energy sources (20%) increase their percentage share.

Over the last few years, the Indian Government has played a pivotal role to raise the share of natural gas in India’s energy mix from 7 percent in 2018 to 30 percent by 2025. Currently, half of India’s supply of natural gas comes from domestic production while the other half comes from imported liquified natural gas (LNG).

Energy security is a key priority for India for sustainable development. The import dependency of crude oil and LNG during the year was 82.59% and 45.89% respectively. Government aims to reduce imports of oil and gas by 10 per cent by 2022-23. India is thus at very precarious situation and to secure its energy needs in sustainable manner, out-of-box solutions are needed. R&D is going to play an important role in the process.

One of India’s major advantages today and going forward is that its Renewable Energy potential is vast and largely untapped. Recent estimates indicate that India’s solar potential is greater than 10,000 GW and its wind potential could be higher than 2,000 GW. With rising electricity demand and falling renewable technology costs, developing nations are leading the global transition to cleaner energy sources. Globally, India stands at No. 5 in terms of total renewable energy installed capacity, behind only China, the U.K., Germany and the U.S. India has 72 gigawatts (GW) of renewable energy capacity - around 8% of India’s overall electricity generation. On the demand side, India’s per-capita electricity consumption is only one-third the global average and one fourth of China’s. What this means is that there is a lot of unmet demand and renewables can play a major role in addressing some of this energy demand.
waste-to-energy potential in India is estimated to be 2,556 MW, of which approximately 12% of the total W2E Potential in India has been harnessed as on November 2018. The progress of waste-to-energy sector in India is dependent on resolution of MSW supply chain issues, better understanding of waste management practices, lowering of technology costs and flexible financial model.
India’s energy efficiency market, estimated to be over $12 billion per year, continues to face implementation barriers, particularly in the residential and public sectors, which have some of the largest untapped potential for energy efficiency improvements. The financing under the India Energy Efficiency Scale-Up Program will not only help EESL to continue achieving the results under its existing initiatives but also strengthen its institutional capacity and ability to meet its future expanding needs by leveraging private ESCO industry and increased access to a wider range of external commercial financing sources Demand for energy end-use appliances and equipment like lighting, ceiling fans, air conditioners, refrigerators, agricultural pumps, and industrial motors is projected to grow significantly in India. So far, through the “Unnat Jyoti by Affordable LEDs for All” (UJALA) program, EESL has already deployed more than 295 million LED bulbs, resulting in avoiding over 7,500 MW of new electricity generation capacity and bringing a significant drop in retail prices of high-quality LED bulbs. Commercial building sector in India is expanding rapidly at over 9% per year spurred largely by the strong growth in the services sector. It has been estimated that more than 50% of building stock that will exist in the year 2030 is yet to come up in the country a situation that is fundamentally different from developed countries.
Considering the importance of energy sector in the Indian Economy, the 13th National Conference on Indian energy sector – Synergy with Energy will be organized in Ahmedabad on August 29, 2019 with the theme “Securing India’s Energy Future for Sustainable Development”. Since 2004, SAKET PROJECTS LTD. organizes National Conference on Indian energy sector - ‘Synergy with Energy’, annually. It has already become a brand equity event and is now recognized as one of the major platforms offering a national debate on the subjects of contemporary interest concerning energy management. The first conference was inaugurated by Hon’ble Chief Minister of Gujarat and Special Address was delivered by Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, the then H.E. the President of India.
