There is a significant potential in the renewable energy sector such as Wind, Small Hydro Power, Biomass and Solar Energy etc. India is ranked second in terms of bio-gas installation and number four in wind energy sector globally by achieving 7,300 MW power connecting to grids. The Ministry of Non-conventional resources has set a target of 12,000 MW new capacity addition in the next five years including 7000 MW from the wind, 2,500 MW from Hydel sources and the other from co-generation. Overall, the Government is targeting up to 80,000 MW of power generation capacity through renewable sources by 2032.
