About Conference

According to Technopak consultancy report, India’s healthcare industry reaches at USD 50 billion at present and is expected to double to USD 100 billion by 2015. It means that India needs another 2.8 million beds to match the global average of 3 beds per 1000 population from the present level of 0.7 beds per 1000 population.

At present, India produces biomedical waste of around 1-2 kg per day per bed and generates 0.33 million tons of biomedical waste annually. With increase in population and health services, ratio per bed per 1000 will increase, resulting in increase of bio-medical waste.

Looking at the present growth, it will increase by three fold; therefore there will be a great pressure on biomedical waste management service providers in the future. Much more work is required to be done in this field. In coming days, scientists and planners will have to devote much time and energy to establish workable and safe healthcare waste management (HCWM) systems in all hospitals, nursing homes, blood banks, dental clinics, laboratories, etc. in urban and semi-urban areas, as well as plan strategy for HCWM in rural area. In fact, with immunisation programmes and outreach of HIV/AIDS Voluntary Counseling and Testing Centres (VCTCs) to the Community Health Centres (CHCs) and eventually to Primary Health Centres (PHCs) all over the country, the HCWM in rural sector will have to be in the core of waste management planning, in the coming days.

We ensure proposed Biomedical Waste (Management and Handling) Rules, 2011 will give better guidelines to handle and manage biomedical. Biomedical Waste (Management and Handling) Rules, 2011 is more comprehensive and with new provisions. Under the new rules, it has been stipulated hospital, nursing home, clinic, dispensary, veterinary institution, animal house, pathological laboratory and blood banks shall apply for grant of authorisation. On the other hand authorisation of medical waste treatment facility for less than 1000 patients per month shall be applied. The draft rules make hospital and owner of medical waste treatment facility liable for all damages caused due to improper handling of waste.
With the overwhelming response from the delegates and industry in the previous two conferences organized in the year 2010 and 2011 respectively, the 3rd National Conference on "Biomedical Waste Management" with the theme "Biomedical Waste Management - Current Trends and Practices" is organised on June 30, 2012 at J. B. Auditorium, Ahmedabad Management Association (AMA), Ahmedabad, jointly with Gujarat Pollution Control Board (GPCB) as prime-supporter. The conference will provide an interactive platform for the discussion of the new developments and research in this field.
It will be of great interest to industry, service providers, researchers and governmental organisations involved in biomedical waste management with following focus and key objectives.
• Biomedical Waste Management: Policy, Regulatory & Administrative Issues • Bio-medical Waste: Emerging Concept & Technologies • Risk management, Training & Other Critical Issues • Collection and Transportation of Healthcare Waste • Principals and Protocols • Developing a Waste Management Plan • Initiatives and Success Stories • Cost of Treatment of Hospital Waste
• Discuss the current and future prospect of biomedical waste management in India. • Deliberate on policy measures to prevent waste. • Deliberate on new technologies. • Experience sharing of best practices.

Exhibition

WASTE MANAGEMENT TECHNOLOGY SHOW 2012 will provide a unique opportunity to exhibitors in showcasing their capabilities in terms of new product innovations, developments, emerging technologies etc. before the most appropriate target audience.

Exhibition will be open throughout both the days and all the sessions and breaks will occur in a contiguous area to maximize networking and convenience for attendees.
