About Conference

With the natural benefit of a 7517 km coastline, it is very important that India uses sea transport for the immense opportunities of out-bound and in-bound traffic with 13 major and 176 non-major ports. Ports have contributed immensely to India’s GDP growth; about 90% by volume and 70% by Value of the country’s international trade is carried on through Maritime Transport. Despite higher growth rates, the merchandise trade volume of India is still below 30 per cent. This shows a lot of untapped potential for trade growth.

In order to realize this growth potential, a number of policy initiatives have been taken during the recent past such as modernization of port infrastructure, setting up of new berths/terminals, expansion, installation of new equipments, up-gradation of cargo handling facilities, and installation of VTMS etc.

Attention has been focused on improvement in port infrastructure, modernization of existing facilities, improve logistic chain, doing away the licensing system, more openings in the domestic retail market with entry for the world class players, establish Special Economic Zone(SEZ) type of projects etc.

With the increase in the traffic handling capacity, the traffic handled at Gujarat's ports also shot up to 231 MT from last year's 206 MT leading to a 12% increase. This increase has made Gujarat's contribution reach approximately 80% out of the total traffic handled at all minor ports of the country and 25% of the total traffic handled from all the ports of the country. On and above, Gujarat leads the country through various achievements like - Private investment to the tune of Rs.24,000 crore. During the Golden Jubilee year, the traffic handling capacity of Gujarat ports increased by 40 MTPA, - for the first time in history of Gujarat. The Special Economic Zones (SEZs) coming up in Gujarat promising assured business for the port operators. Against India's major ports' annual growth of about 8 to 10%, the Gujarat state achieved 18 to 20%. Alongwith the traffic and income, the state also increased industrial growth in many ways and accelerated the development of backward coastal areas.
To meet the challenges of Port and its Infrastructure sector, the Government has already planned huge investments throgh the Maritime Agenda Vision 2020. Resulting in a large number of port infrastructure projects are coming up across the country. Keeping this in mind, the 3rd National Conference on Infrastructure and Ports with the theme "Integrated Maritime Planning and Development: Challenges and Way Forward” is being organised on September 16-17, 2011 at Ahmedabad Management Association (AMA) Auditorium, Ahmedabad. The event will provide an excellent platform for all concerned to share their expertise and knowledge on latest developments as well as challenges and opportunities in the maritime sector.

It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout. The point of using Lorem Ipsum is that it has a more-or-less normal distribution of letters, as opposed to using 'Content here, content here', making it look like readable English. Many desktop publishing packages and web page editors now use Lorem Ipsum as their default model text, and a search for 'lorem ipsum' will uncover many web sites still in their infancy. Various versions have evolved over the years, sometimes by accident, sometimes on purpose (injected humour and the like).

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry's standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
